Jim Powell taught for over 34 years in the Rio Linda Union School District. He was an outstanding teacher of 5th and 3rd grade students using very creative methods such as his ventriloquist dummy, Homer Hatfield! He pioneered the district's technology program, and was very active in its development until his retirement in 1994. He was Teacher of the Year also. Unfortunately, Mr. Powell passed away in December of 1997, but he left a legacy of passion for the teaching profession which his family and the district want to perpetuate through the training of future educators.
